6/27/98 Burger Joint FAQ Matt Dabrowski damage inc. Madguy70@aol.com members.aol.com/madguy70 If you're reading this, then you've obviously played Burger Joint. This impresses me so much, that as a reward, you get a bunch of questions answered right here in this FAQ. Who could ask for more? Oh yeah, the masses... Q: I want to know EXACTLY how long it took you to do the game. A: Gee, according to my calendar, I started around May 19, and will finish up sometime within a week. Q: First Todd's Adventure, then War-Torn, then Burger Joint, then War-Torn 2, then Todd 2... Is this a pattern of humorous and not-so humorous games? A: Yes. I suppose so. Q: Why are you mad? A: Arrrrrr. Q: Will there ever be a sequel? A: No, one game of this sort is quite enough. Besides, I now realize, after designing BJ, that the kind of game I had in mind when I first started my work just ain't possible with ZZT. Too bad. Q: Are the characters based on people you know in real life? A: Only the ones inside my head. Whoops, said too much... Q: How many endings are there? A: Just one in this game. My other two games had four apiece, so a single ending was a real departure. Q: Where did your inspiration come from? A: Jordan Mechner's largely underappreciated real-time adventure game, "The Last Express". This is where I got the idea for an entirely real-time ZZT game. Q: How many possible places to die/get fired are there in Burger Joint? A: Way too many to count. If you'd played the game, you'd know that already. Q: What were the hardest parts of the game to do? A: Testing for bugs took a lot more time than it did in previous games. A lot of time, I'd have to play through the entire board just to get to the single point that I was supposed to be testing. As usual, an object's code might just disappear into thin air for no reason whatsoever. Ugh. Q: What about the music? A: What about it? It's part '50s, part something else. Q: Hey, you're a meatball head! A: That's not a question, proud clod! Q: So what's the purpose of this FAQ? A: This FAQ is not an act of an ego-infested braggart who wants attention. I just wanted to see if people played the game, and making people send comments to me to get this FAQ seemed like a good idea. I also did this because it was fun to write, and I myself enjoy reading game FAQs. So, there you have it!
